Drop the Gloves (Installment #1)

Tuesday, November 23, 2010

Drop the Gloves’ is a new thread where creative ideas rule. Simply stated, two opposing items will face-off against one another. Your job is to simply pick the item you like best and get creative with why it is better than the other. Your ideas must be realistic and exist in our known world. However, imagination, careful planning, and effort could help lift your side to victory. Thinking outside the box and defending why you like your choice is critical to success here (Associate your colour with other things – not just a colour – see image).
Which colour do you think is better - BLUE or RED?

Red is DEFINITELY better because it is strong, passionate and confident. Some people don't like red because it is the colour of blood, but whenever I think of red, I feel like I can do anything.

Red is the clear choice, because it is like a fire burning strong. When I think of the colour red, I feel fury and that last bit of hope stirring inside.

Blue is not as passionate as red. Like when I write stories and poems I can associate red with many of the topics but i enjoy stories and poems that reflect sadness.
Blue is Mellow, relaxed though it can still be charged and passionate in the form of sadness.
Blue is the clear choice for me though I believe they both have merit it is just that blue suits me better than red does.

Ahmed Ga'al said...

I think red is the best, here's why. Red is not only a bloody, colour I also associate it with love and passion. Red is a bold colour but with timid shades. Red is just a colour of... everything. Do team red. Viva red

Blue is energy, water and red is blood and hate. I fell blue is happy. I fell energetic about blue. Blue is clear and calm water.

Nice to see the first one to choose blue, number fourteen! Blue is one of my favourite colours too, but I still like red better, and I sort of disagree with you. RED IS CHARGED! Everyone sees danger, anger, and war in it, but for me, red mostly shows courage and determination. Red is the colour of poppies, and the colour of blood shed from brave soldiers who didn’t stop at the danger ahead of them. Whenever I see red the first thing that I think is, “Do it! Take action! What’s to be afraid of? You just keep on going no matter what happens!” This is also a joyful colour; the colour that shows Christmas, my favourite time of year, is coming (pink is for Valentines Day!). That’s why red’s my favourite colour. Would anyone like to red up this debate?!

blue is cold and cold is cool air. Red is hot and hot is humid, sweaty, air blocking, burning fires that destroy all in it's path.

Red is a very confident color, a powerful and strong color. Red is connected with many things, from courage to bravery, and of course it is also tied to love and passion. Red is a very popular color in websites, designs and flags. You can clearly see Canada’s flag is has red, the China’s flag has red and many, many more countries have this highly honored color on their flag.
Red is one of the warmest colors and it is in you and it is one of the primary colors. To me red makes you work faster and it can give you more energy. Red gets attention and it could mean stop.

Red can signify alot of holidaystoo!!!
This is why i like RED!

Blue represents clear skies and sunny days. red though charged and beautiful as it is, cannot compare to the mellow magnificence of blue.
Red and Blue though both beautiful and both great, blue is my favourite...
I'm not mad at the red-lovers, it's just their opinion.

Fourteen said...

Red is passionate and it makes me feel warm but Blue makes me think of soft warm velvet bed because of the soft rich colour and lustre of it. Blue and red are both my favourite colours but blue wins by a landslide. red is a beautiful colour and all the others who picked red have a clear reason why they picked it but i also believe my reason is justified and clear.

My choice is blue. it is my favourite colour. Well, actually black is my favourite colour but it's not a choice.

Red is the awesome sauce colour. Zamrock is the best god for Runescape, and all his dreams come true. He is also smarter. The main colour main characters usually wear is red. Red has nothing to do with green envy. Red is not sad, like blue, but anger and energy. Red is Mars, the planet and the god. Red is an all mighty volcano. Red is the passionite sun. Red is the heart, both organ and valentine. Red is the colour on the bottom of my mouse. Red... is fire.

i like watermelons and strawberries. they are both red

I think that red is better, red can be assicoted with many things like anger, courage, boldness, evilness, hatred, and things like that.

Fourteen said...

Let me get something straight...There is nothing wrong with red! I'm so shocked that there are only so far, two people who like blue better. It is shocking!

Megan said...

I, personally like blue much more than red. Blue represents serenity and calmness. Red is a distructive colour with blood, war, volcanoes and overall, anger. Blue is a calm nice colour best in the bluish greenish shade like the sea.

Ten said...

For me, I like both, but if I had to choose, I would have to pick blue. Even though red is like strength and courage, blue is a more calm colour. Blue is like oceans and when I see blur, it reminds me of clamness and serenity. I think blue is less violent then red and I think it looks better because you can have many shades of blue. If you add white to red too much, it will bacome pink and that is a different colour. If you add white of a bit off green to blue, it is still a type of blue (light blue and "aqua blue"). I don't hate red, but I just think blue is better.

Fourteen said...

YES MORE BLUE!! WE ROCK BLUE SUPPORTERS!!!!!

Megan said...

Red is an angry agressive that only provokes thoughts of goriness.

Ahmed Ga'al said...

Well actually it depends how you think about the colour red. There are many negative things related to red, but it goes the other way. A poppy is red, but blood is also red. I like to think of red as love.
Also, blue can be an aggressive colour to. Water can kill people with tsunami's and people drown in water. Blue is associated with many gangs were as red is associated with a very big gang.
I think that red is a different colour because so many things are associated with it... GO TEAM RED

21 said...

Yeah, now two and ten are both blue supporters as well me and fourteen. I am happy to see more people are supporting blue. Red is corresponded with all this charged mixture of hatred and love and anger and blooodshed. Blue is neutral, it is a neutral colour and reppresents my christmas tree. I always decorate my tree with blue. So red is charged and mixed and confusing with so many emotions. blue is simple neutral, the waving and crashing waves on rocks. Go team blue!!

Eight said...

Red is better because , when I think of blue, I think of sadness and freeezing and coldness. But when I think about red, I don't think anger, I think will and the chance and the small hope that is still stirring. I don't care if the majority likes blue, they wont change my mind. I think, personaly, that red is better. That's my opinion, not everyone else's.
Oh by the way, remember that guy I was for Hallowe'en? I was Zamorak, a god of RuneScape and he pretty much controls chaos and evil. I will use my Zamorakian powers if you people don't come to your senses and realize that red is better.
If you said red is better, your life will be spared... for now...

eleven said...

I think red is better because it is more passionate and beautiful. It's colour holds many things. It makes you think about it's different meaning. I thing it is a wonderful colour because it is the colour of love. Other than that, red's totally my colour!

fifteen said...

Red is a beautiful, ambitious colour. It is the colour of love, and poppies, and red blood courses through your veins. I'm not saying blue is horrible, but I think red is better. Red is a ripe apple, red is filled with vibrancy and power.

Sandhiya said...

If I had to say my favourite coulor of all time, it would be pink. But if I had to pick between blue and red. It would be blue. Red reminds me of blood and war and violence and pain. Blue is peaceful, cool, calm and nice.

Fourteen said...

I like black but it isn't a choice. Black holds many secrets that intrigue the onlooker.

But black isn't a choice so... GO TEAM BLUE!!!

I actually like red better because its much more vibrant and meaningful to me than blue. Yes, it could also symbolize blood and war but blue could symbolize cold and lonliness too. There are possitive and negative sides to each colour but I still like red better.

Megan said...

Blue is the colour of many things in nature such as water , flowers, and some animals.

Why isn't magenta a choice? I'd pick that. It's funky.

i like black, it symbolizes wisdom.

red and blue are both ok colour, but it is not exciting. how about some thing like, electric green or neon orange. now that is exciting.

Anonymous said...

White rules it symbolizes balance!

Anonymous said...

Red and blue are both good, but put them together and you get a purple. People see red the wrong way. Danger and aggression? You don't think of that(well maybe a few people), you think war. Then you start thinking of blood and dead people... But war itself is passion, and standing for things you believe it instead of just standing back and watching it happen like a boring TV show! And "Mr.Blue" of loyalty, security, chilling, and depression does that! Even now as I write, it's charged! don't see me leaning back and randomly typing with my feet! red is an energy drink, like red bull, or joy like chirstmas, and speed, and skill, an-and strength! RED IS A CHARGED COLOUR! I MEAN.. HERE I AM NOW shouting about red. IT'S SACRIFICE, IT'S LIFE, IT'S LOVE, IT'S ENERGY, IT'S ANGER, IT'S DISTRUCTION, IT'S HONOR, IT'S COMPASSION, IT'S GUILT, IT'S SURVIVAL, IT'S CUPID AND THE DEVIL, IT DRAWS ATTENTION, IT TAKES ACTION, IT'S WERFARE, IT'S ENTHUSIASM, IT'S YOUR AMBITIONS, IT'S HEAT, Red can attract or repel or elevate or enrage! Red,(from research and studies)has the greatest emotional impact of all colours. And I am not a hot-tempered/red-headed person, I am a red lover.

Ahmed Ga'al said...

I have been a fan of red in this battle... but my favourite colour is green. Green is a large green meadow on a hill. Green is just a mallow colour. Green is the outside of a watermelon(mmmmm) Green is nasty bogeys. Green is by far the best colour... GO GREEN

Fourteen said...

Black; though it symbolizes hatred for many people...I don't htink of it that way. when I see black I think of silk bedsheets, wisdom as seven said, and more importantly black is my favourite colour because it is beautiful. It's mysterious and compelling and simply wonderful.

Ahmed Ga'al said...

I hate the fact that every one says red is a destructive colour. Oh red is anger and blood. It's only the way you look at it. One blue supporter said "Blue is calm and peaceful" right. Another blue supporter said"Blue represents serenity and calmness. "Yes blue is all those things. But blue can also be a destructive tsunami,a depressed lonely person.
One blue supporter said "Red is an angry agressive that only provokes thoughts of goriness" this person also went on to say"Red is a distructive colour with blood, war, volcanoes and overall, anger" Yes red is all of those things, but blue has negative sides to. Every colour has its' pros and its' cons. But you have to overlook the negative and see which colour has more positives. The blue team only can say a few things about blue for example blue is calm and is neutral. Well red is the colour of poppies, red is eternal love and red is one of the colour's of Christmas. Red is the charged and confident, red is lucky and is a festive colour in most religons. Red is much more than that. Blue is just calm and neutral. You see every colour has a negative and positive side... It's just how you think about it. GO TEAM RED!

Fourteen said...

Blue can also represent calm waves lapping at your feet on the beach. Blue is a great colour but black is better. Black is so...great that i can't even express it in words.

This is exactly what it said on Wikipedia:

Red is used as a symbol of guilt, sin and anger, often as connected with blood or sex.[30] A Biblical example is found in Isaiah: "Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be white as snow."[31] Also, The Scarlet Letter, an 1850 American novel by Nathaniel Hawthorne, features a woman in a Puritan New England community who is punished for adultery with ostracism, her sin represented by a red letter 'A' sewn into her clothes.[32] This all comes from a general Hebrew view inherited by Christianity which associates red with the blood of murder,[33] as well as with guilt in general. Often, things will be in red to scare.[34] Another popular example of this is in the phrase "caught red-handed", meaning either caught in an act of crime or caught with the blood of murder still on one's hands.[35] At one point, red was associated with prostitutes, or now, with brothels (red-light districts).[36][37] In Roman Catholicism, red represents wrath, one of the Seven Deadly Sins. In Christianity, Satan is usually depicted as colored red and/or wearing a red costume in both iconography and popular culture.[38] Statistics have shown that red cars are more likely to be involved in accidents.[39]

The color red is associated with lust, passion, love, and beauty as well. The association with love and beauty is possibly related to the use of red roses as a love symbol.[40] Both the Greeks and the Hebrews considered red a symbol of love, as well as sacrifice.[41] Psychological research has shown that men find women who are wearing red more attractive.[42]

Fourteen said...

Red is used as a symbol of courage and sacrifice, as in blood spilt in sacrifice or courage in the face of lethal danger.[43] Examples of this are found in the flags of many nations including the United States, as well as in the novel The Red Badge of Courage, in which a soldier in the American Civil War discovers the meaning of courage.[44] In Christianity, red is the liturgical color for the feast of martyrs, representing the blood of those who suffered death for their faith. It is sometimes used as the liturgical color for Holy Week including Palm Sunday and Good Friday, although this is a modern (20th century) development. In Roman mythology red is associated with the god of war, Mars.[43] A Roman general receiving a triumph had his entire body painted red in honor of his achievement.[45] The phrase "red-blooded" describes someone who is audacious, robust, or virile.[35] In Edward de Bono's book Six Thinking Hats a red hat represents feelings and emotions.[46] Red and gold are also used for the Gryffindor house, which is known for bravery, in Hogwarts.

This paragraph from wikipedia supports your opinion on red, red-supporters but the passage I posted earlier suggest red has a bad side to it as well.

I'm not sure if you guys understand this but it is a true pice of philosophy. Don't say im crazy or i will get you (kidding)

red is better red represents freedom and hope while blue is cold red is Zamorak who is not too bad if you get past his cockyness but blue is Saradomin who is stubborn and selfish (well, they're both selfish, they're gods) and Zamorak is simply mischievous and doesn't think his plans through so they fail but Saradomin is a war strategy genius and if he did something to upset the balance it would succeed also Saradomin wants to rid the world of chaos which is not a good thing if chaos were gone there would be no choices (exactly the reason Guthix allowed chaos to exist) but Zamorak simply messes things up for entertainment he would not do anything too bad because he needs the world to play with overall red is better HAIL GUTHIX

Red is any of a number of similar colors evoked by light consisting predominantly of the longest wavelengths of light discernible by the human eye, in the wavelength range of roughly 630–740 nm.Red is also one of the subtractive primary colors of RYB color space but not CMYK color space. The word red comes from the Old English rēad.[4] Further back, the word can be traced to the Proto-Germanic rauthaz and the Proto-Indo European root reudh-. In Sanskrit, the word rudhira means red or blood. In the English language, the word red is associated with the color of blood, certain flowers (e.g. roses), and ripe fruits (e.g. apples, cherries). Fire is also strongly connected, as is the sun and the sky at sunset. Red signifies guilt, pain, passion, blood, anger, sin, courage, sacrifice, and warning.
Start;;BLUE
Blue is a colour, the perception of which is evoked by light having a spectrum dominated by energy with a wavelength of roughly 440–490 nm. It is considered one of the additive primary colours. The word itself is derived from the Old French word bleu. The Blue House is the residence of the President of South Korea, and blue symbolises freedom, strength and new beginnings, optimism and better opportunities. Blue is the color of loyalty and faith. Blue is power. Blue is also the color of protection. Blue symbolism is nearly universal in meaning.

Therefore, i prefer blue over red.

I guess there are good and bad things about both colours. One isn't much better than the other really. This could go on forever.

77 posts! Well I guess it's something of a challenge to get something new and fresh with so many things already said... But I just want to say red can be associated with many bad things, even though I choose red over blue. Think about the ol' idioms and expressions... "He was caught'redhanded'..." "She was a 'red-tempered' person..." The only thing I'm think is red is thought to be a "bad" colour because these things. But can anyone think of something to go with blue? This shows red is more CHARGED.

four said...

If I had to choose between red and blue, still red, 'cause it's a natural hair colour...

Megan said...

@3, There is no pro or con to a colour really. Its just a pigment of colou we see in. Plus all these things that we think represent these two charged colours. Say, red. Most people that have posted say stuff like anger and war. Even if it does represent anger and war, the question is, it andger and war a good or bad thing?

Ahmed Ga'al said...

@2 All I am trying to say is that it's just the way you look at a colour. Everyone is saying red is war and blood, but red is other things to. It's best to overlook the "Bad" things and look at the "good" things.

One said...

I wonder why we are debating about this I mean colour is there so we can describe and express things. I agree with 2 there is no pro or con to colours.

Megan said...

@3, this should then go into an agruement about if, for example, blood and war, the question is is blood and war good and bad?
